Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important political figure said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
