Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
